Literature Text

Jack was flying quickly through a forest of some sort, seemingly in quite a rush.

"Come on, it has to be around here somewhere..." He mumbled to himself, cautiously scanning the area as he flew.  Jack flew up and out of the top of the trees. After a good look around, he finally saw what he was looking for. Off in the distance  was a gigantic mountain with a few openings. And in those openings, Jack could slightly see some sort of structure inside, light shining off of something colorful inside.  Jack made his way to the mountain as fast as he could. As he flew, he passed a lot of these little green-ish-blue humming bird like creatures.

Once inside, there were beautiful, giant buildings carved out of humongous stalagmites, painted in breath taking colorful pastels and highlighted in gold. Down below the hanging buildings was a collection of waterfalls, leading into a giant, sparkling pond down at the base.

"Finally, the Tooth Palace..." Jack said to himself.  He watched millions of the tiny humming bird like creatures carry tiny teeth to and from all over the place. Jack flew downward and into one of the buildings. He searched from wall to wall. There were many pictures of children's faces. but, he could care less. The only child's face he was looking for, was yours.  As Jack searched, a bundle of humming bird creatures crowded around him, even fallowing him when he moved from wall to wall. He grunted.
"Come on, shoo baby teeth," he said, brushing a few of them off his shoulder.  One of the Baby Teeth Fairies seemed to get a little irritated. It tugged on his hood, trying to get his attention. "Hey, I'm busy. Shoo." Jack said.  The Baby Tooth huffed, and flew off. Jack continued searching.  A moment later, however, The baby Tooth came back with a larger fairy, the real Tooth Fairy herself.

"Jack, what are you doing here?" she asked politely.

"I'm looking for ______'s teeth," he replied bluntly as he kept searching. Jack flew to the other end of the building, having finished that side.

"What? Why do you need her teeth?" Tooth asked in confusion.

"I just need them all right?"

"Well, why? You cant just take off with a child's memories like that Jack."

"I'm not just going to take off with them."

"Then what do you want with them?" Tooth demanded. Jack flew out of the building to another, still searching. Tooth followed. "Jack. Jack! Hey, Im talking to you! Why do you want those teeth?"

"Why should I tell you? If I do, you wont let me take them." Jack remarked, pausing in his search and looking at her.

"Oh, I don't know. Maybe because I'm the Tooth Fairy, and it's my job to protect the memories off all the children in the world," she remarked back.  Jack sighed.

"She had mentioned something about asking someone else that had magic like me to help her remember me. She said, maybe if she could remember something that she could see me again..." Jack explained.  Tooth's concern turned to sympathy.

"Oh, Jack..." she said. Jack looked down and Tooth out a hand on her shoulder. Jack only jerked away, knowing she wasn't going to let him take your teeth.  "Jack... I-I'm sorry, but I cant let you..." she began.

"And why not? What's so horribly wrong with letting _____ remember me, huh?" Jack spat. Tooth seemed hurt as his comment.

"Jack, she's sixteen now. She's too old to believer in us now. She's... she's out of our reach now... We cant, Jack. It's... It's just too late." she said. "I'm so sorry."

"Why?" Jack asked,

"Huh? What are you-"

"Why is it that I cant help her, just because she's a teenager? Where is it written, that I she cant believe in us just because she's older?" Jack asked spitefully.

"Jack, you know that's not our choice-"

"And who says that? Where is this rule book, huh? I want to see it, right now."

"There is no rule book, Jack. We do what we're told. What Manny says goes. We have no say."

"Yeah, well I'm sick of it! That moon man should just butt out!" Tooth and a few of her fairies gasped.

"Jack, the Moon made you who you are, he made you a guardian for heaven's sake Jack. It's thanks to him that she even got to see you at all. You should be thankful for what you have."

"Yeah, well what good is it to have something for such a short amount of time, only to have it taken away, and then have it rubbed in your face, huh?" Jack glared at Tooth. She just looked away shamefully. "I don't care what you say, I'm taking her teeth." Jack said, returning to his searching.  Tooth suddenly went back into a panic.

"Jack, wait! You really cant! Jack!" she called, following him. Jack searched faster, making it hard for Tooth to keep up with him. And soon, he easily lost her. Jack searched more calmly, inspecting every face he came across very closely. And then, his face lit up at finding your picture.  He pushed the image of your face inward, and with a few clocks, out came a jewel and gold decorated container. Jack took a deep breath in relief. He slowly took the container, handling it with care.  Jack hovered down to the ground, sitting Indian style. He carefully looked over your container, checking for any dents, scratched or flaws. Nope, not a single blemish. But, there was a slight sound of laughter emulating from it. It was very light, and quiet, but he could hear it. It sounded of a child and a boy's laughter. Jack smiled, recognize it as your voice when you were younger and his. "Jack. Jack, you better not touch those teeth!" Tooth called from somewhere near outside.

Jack stood up, pulling hi hood over his head, and slipped out the opposite direction Tooth was.  He eased his way around stalactites, doing hi best to stay out of view of all the baby tooth fairies.  When they all seemed to have started looking else where, Jack made way for his escape. But, much to his displeasure, he ran right into Tooth. Jack panicked and flew out of the mountain as fast as he could, Tooth tailing him from behind. Luckily, Jack was faster, and escaped with ease. Tooth knew she wouldn't be able to keep up. She slowed to a stop in the air, watching Jack take off with your teeth. "Jack! Wait!" she called. Jack rolled his eyes and pressed on. "Jack! There's something you need to know before you go! It's about _____!" she shouted.

Jack stopped in mid air at her words. She flew slightly closer to him, and said with great pain, "She wont believe in you, Jack. Even if you show her those memories." Jack's heart dropped as she spoke. "Her father... He- He cut her too deep, Jack. Nothing you ever say or do can break those scars he left her. She cant never believe in any of us, ever again... I'm sorry." Jack's hurt turned to anger. But, he held in his words, and flew off faster than he did when he escaped. "You cant change the past Jack!" Tooth called before he got to far away. She looked down, seemingly just as upset as Jack. "None of us can.." she uttered to herself with mournfulness.

Jack raced through the city. It was nighttime, and Sandy was out spreading his dream sand.  Aside from the moon, the dim city lights the dream sand, it was unusually dark. The stars weren't even out. The world around Jack seemed lifeless, still, quiet. Silent actually, too much so.  He made his way to your house. Your desk light was the only one on in the house.  You were on your computer, looking up something about how fast water can freeze.  Your sister had fallen asleep on your bed with a coloring book and a few crayons. He landed out on your balcony, peeking through the curtains slightly draped over your sliding doors.  He saw you at your desk, you sister sleeping in your bed, dream sand swirling above her head, and papers scattered on your desk. At a closer look, they were drawings. They were detailed drawings of the days events. Well, to you they were doodles. But they looked like they took you hours just to do one, when they actually took about thirty minutes each.

You stretched, and got up out of your chair, heading out into the hall. Jack took the opportunity to enter your room with out alarming you.  He went to your desk, taking a closer look at your drawings.  He seemed very proud of he inspiration he gave you.   He sat in your chair, pulling out your tooth case from his hoddie pocket.  Its gems shone softly from the light of your lamp.  Tooth's words echoed through Jack's mind. He was debating whether she would be right. What if you didn't believe in him when you saw your memories? What if, you completely stopped trying? What if... So many "what ifs" rolled around and around in his mind.

"Jack..." Emilee suddenly said, making jack jump slightly. He turned to see Emilee waking up, rubbing her eyes. "What are you doing here? Don't you have a bed time?" she asked sleepily. Jack chuckled at her thinking everyone had some sort of a curfew. He got up and sat next to her on the bed, giving her a hug. Emilee smiled weakly, gladly returning his affection.  She squinted at light reflecting off of your tooth container Jack left at your desk. "What's that?"

"Oh uh... That's a present I have for your sister," Jack said.

"Oh really. What is it? I wont tell," she asked.

"it's uh... It's... It's nothing..." Jack said. "All right, back to bed kiddo." Jack pulled your covers over her.

"Night Jack," she said sweetly.  He smiled at her kindness.

"Night," he replied softly .  Jack ruffled Emilee's hair, and headed quietly out your sliding doors.  He waved bye to her from the other side of the door, and she happily waved back.  And with that, he flew off into the night.  But, suddenly he stopped, his stomach dropping. He quickly flew back to your balcony, peering in the window. You were just walking back into your room with a glass of chocolate milk. Jack grunted slightly kicking the ground. He had left your teeth on your desk before he left! Great! The last minute he changes his mind, and ends up messing it up.

You sit down at your desk, noticing the odd container.  You take a drink of your chocolate milk, and pick up the container. After setting your cup down, you curiously overlook the gold cylinder.  Jack watched you nervously. You lightly moved your fingers over the jewels.  Jack winced, hoping you didn't trigger anything. Luckily, nothing happened. You shrugged it off, and put it in your desk drawer. Jack sighed in relief, and went back into the night.   Maybe Tooth's wrong, Jack thought.  Maybe this isn't so bad after all. Jack looked down at your house. He smiled. So what if you didn't remember, he and you still have fun together, right? You couldn't see him, and you both still played like in the past. Maybe, it would be all right even if you ended up not remembering anyway.  but, then again, maybe not. Jack had no way of knowing. And, he wasn't really sure or not if he wanted to find out.

Later that night, you had finally gotten tired of your research. You looked at your clock. It was a few minutes past one in the morning.  You looked over at your sleeping sister. You smiled, thinking she was just the cutest thing ever.  You got up, carefully picking her up in your arms, and took her to her room, tucking her in.

"Sweet dreams Emilee," you said in a whisper. You head back to your room, yawning as you walk down the hallway.  You lazily start picking up your scattered drawings and Emilee's crayon mess.  After gathering up all the crayons, you open your desk drawer to put them away. You notice that odd container you found on your desk earlier as you drop the crayons in.  You tilted your head to the side, wondering what it was and where it came from.  You grab it out of your drawer. You lazily walk to your bed and let yourself fall on it. You put one of your arms behind your head, and hold the teeth case above you as you inspect it again. It sure was pretty, but you found it extremely odd that is appeared out of no where, and that it had your face on it.  You sat up, inspecting it for a button or a lid. You held it next to your ear and shook it. There was something inside. But you just couldn't figure out how to open it, and your curiousness was killing you.  Finally you just gave up and set it on your night stand.  Ah, I'll look at it some more tomorrow, you thought. You turned off your lamp and closed your eyes. Almost instantly you began to drift into a well needed rest.

"Jack!" you hear a voice suddenly call out of no where. You jump right out of your skin, suddenly wide awake!

"Who? What-? Wh- WAH!" you stammered, ending up falling off your bed.  You groan, straining to pull yourself off the ground and back into your bed. Man, what in the world was that, you thought.

"Jack! Wait for me!"you hear the same voice say again. You jump slightly at the disembodied voice.

"Hurry up slowpoke! I cant wait forever," you hear another voice say.  You start to get frightened by the bodiless voices.

"G-Go away y-you ghosts!" you shout, hiding under your bed covers. "I-I have purification salt, a-and I'm not afraid to use it!"  The only response you got was the two voiced happily laughing together.  You look over at the gold container, it slightly shook at the sounds of the voices.  You attentively reach out, and pick it up.  Reinspecting it again, there was a slight pulse of light coming from the large gem in the middle. You stare at it in awe, very softly creasing it with your finger. But, suddenly the gem sunk slightly into the cylinder and producing a bright light. You cover your eyes, as you are re-omitted into your childhood memories.

The next thing you knew, you were outside. There was tons of snow, even more than this morning. And there was more coming down. but, you weren't cold at all, you actually felt like you had on some heavy clothing.

"Jack, wait for me!" you called, not being able to control what you do. Your voice sounded similar to Emilee's, and for some reason everything looked a whole lot bigger.  You look around at your surroundings, as if looking for someone. You were in a forest, and was it beautiful.

"Well hurry up slowpoke!" said a boy's voice. You feel yourself turn toward the direction the voice came from. You saw some sort of a figure head behind some bushes and trees. "I cant wait forever."  You felt yourself smile, suddenly filled with excitement.

"Coming!" you say, and began to chase after the figure.  You couldn't really see it though, it seemed to be quick. But, you never lost it either. Soon, you came to an opening.  There was a beautiful lake, it shimmered with the light of the sun. Almost like it was made of diamonds.  That's the lake from my dream, you thought.

"Wow, it's so pretty," you say with awe. You look around for the figure again.  You saw it sitting in a tree top. At a closer look it was the figure of a boy, an older one, holding a staff.  You hear yourself giggle. "What are you doing all the way up there Jack? I thought you wanted to show me something."  The figure laughed in the male voice you've been hearing.

"I don't know, maybe I've changed my mind," he teased, moving his staff around.  You felt yourself put your hands on your hips.

"Jack Frost you get your butt down here right now, or I wont play with you," you demanded. You felt a light bulb go on in your head at hearing yourself say the name Jack Frost.

"All right, all right. Have it your way Kiddo," the boy said. He seemed to float off the top of the tree and onto the snow covered ground. The boy walked from the shadows of the trees and into the holy light of the sun. There stood a tall, lean young man, seemingly in his teens. He had shining, white hair, with a blue, frost covered hoddie and tan, skinny pants. He carried a large staff that came into a hook . It looked like it was covered in frost too. This wasn't just a vision, this was a memory. And this boy, was none other, than Jack Frost.

"Now show me what you were gonna show me," you whined. Jack chuckled.

"Ah-ah miss prissy pants, what do we say?" he teased. You pouted.

"Please..." you mumble reluctantly.

"That's a good girl," Jack teased. You felt yourself growl. You were very impatient when you were young.  "OK, give me your hand," Jack said. You did as you were asked.  You suddenly were pulled up in the air, hovering high above the ground with Jack. You felt yourself get nervous, as you were extremely scared of heights. "Don't worry, I got you." Jack assured you.  He flew over the lake, and slowly lowered himself and you down to it. You gasped in fear of the cold water and clung to Jack like you were stuck together with molasses. "_____, relax. It's going to be all right, trust me. We're just going to have a little fun." Jack eased closer to the lake, until he could touch it with his foot. And,when he did touch it, frost spread quickly across its surface.

Jack gently let you down to stand on the ice, much to your displeasure. "Shh, shh, it's OK.  You're not going to fall in, I promise." Jack cooed in a soothing voice. He slowly let go of your arms and you struggle to keep your balance. With a few wobbles, you topple over. But luckily Jack caught you before you hit the ground. "Whoa, careful," he said. "OK,give it another shot." He floated just above you, holding your hands. His his help, you slowly made your way across the ice.

You smiled at being able to keep your balance. Jack happily gave you a smile back. "OK,now try on your own," Jack said, letting go of your hands. You wobble a bit, but quickly regain your balance. "All right, way to go____!"he praised you, making you giggle. "OK,let's try skating now." Jack gently stood back on the ice.
"Just do as I do, OK kiddo?"You nodded in understanding. Jack moved one foot, you copied him. He moved his other foot. Again you mimicked him, only too lose your balance and fall. You and Jack laughed. He gladly helped you back up, and he began teaching you how to skate once again. After a few tries, you finally got it. And soon, you were flying all over the lake.

"Wee! Look at me Jack! I'm an ice skater!" you shout with delight. Jack chuckled.

"You sure are. Woo, look at you go!" he humored you, leaning on a tree.  You skate over to Jack, wiggling a little once you got back onto ground with traction. "Hm, what is it? Bored all ready?" he asked.

"Come ice dance with me Jack!"you say with innocence.

"Uh, i don't know... I'm not much of a dancing  guy..I'm more of a... Snowball war guy..." Jack stuttered, his face turning a light shade of pink. But you were persistent.

"Come on Jack, please?" you begged, tugging on his arm.  He sighed in embarrassment, rubbing his head.

"Oh,all right. But only this one time," he said.

But, before you could see the rest of your memory, you started fading back to reality. You held your head, feeling a little dizzy.  But you quickly turn your attention back to your tooth case. You repeatedly pressed the big jewel in the middle.

"Come on, come on. I want to see the rest," you mumble. But, nothing happened.  Your expression saddened, and you set the case back on your night stand.  You lay back in your bed for a moment, and then get up, grabbing a coat. You slide open your glass doors, and stand out on your balcony. You shiver at the cold air, bringing your jacket closer to your body. You look out into the town, looking for some sort of a sign of Jack. But the tone was unbearably quiet. Though, it didn't seem as gloomy as before. Even the stars had come back out. And the moon seemed bigger and brighter.

What was that? That thing just made me have that vision...

You closed your eyes, re-envisioning the boy who you called Jack Frost. A boy with white hair, dressed unusually light, carried and odd staff, and seemed very playful. His personality seemed very familiar.

Maybe...it's a sign? Maybe, there's a slight possibility he is real...

You laughed slightly to yourself, thinking you were insane.

Yeah, right. I was just dreaming, yeah that's it. It was a dream... I've read too many claims and articles on the Internet, my research gave me a messed up dream.

You look back inside at the gold container.

But... then again... that just appeared out of no where. I cant just brush that off as some odd insignificance...

Looking back up at the moon, you feel yourself beginning to wonder. With a deep breath, you dig deep, down inside your mind, trying to remember how you felt when the first days of snow came to you when you were little. Sitting in front of the TV for the weather cast, trying to stay up all night to see the first snowflakes of winter fall; and even though you went too much of a fan of the cold, jumping right into snow like it was a ball pit. You remembered how excited you felt, how happy you were when your mother helped you make a snow man or she made snow angels, going sledding and having snow ball fights. But the best thing you loved about winter, was coming back inside at the end of the day for warm, hot chocolate and cuddling with your parents with a movie. A small smile crept its way onto your face at dear memories.

You giggle to  yourself, remembering that warm and fizzy feeling you got at the end of every snow day.
You know, maybe I'm not so crazy after all. Kids are of pure innocence in their early years. According to most mythology, fables, myths, and kind of fairy tale to legend know to man; children are pure. They see all, love all, and judge not. They're open to anything and everything. Maybe, everything from my childhood isn't as ridiculous as it sounds.

Shivering at a breeze, you make your way back inside. You throw off your jacket and slip back into your bed.  You stare at the golden case sleepily.

I'll believe in you Jack. For now, at least. Children see everything there is to see in the world. And, even I was a child at one point.

You nuzzle into your blanket, feeling a loving warmth wrap its arms around you. Soon, you start to drift off into a deep sleep. Sandy's dream sand crept gracefully into your room once again, but seemingly with a different behavior. As it gently swirled above your head, it soon began to form into a dream. Jack, had done it. He had given you a second chance at childhood.
OK, chapter eight! The reveal if you do end up believing in Jack or not! Which is it?Well, you'll just have to read and find out. ;) =P
